Lighting: Building Lighting, High Masts, and Street Lights
Assess current lighting conditions. Measuring current conditions against calculated upgrades will present the expected savings. Understanding current lighting conditions and needs will aid in determining applicable opportunities and recommendations.
The number of lights, their location, and their time in use is established to help understand the current energy use attributed to lighting in the facility. This information will help understand how much is spent and the potential savings available from lighting efficiencies. Replace inefficient lights with efficient ones.
HVAC: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
The starting point is carrying out an estimate both for cooling and heating depends on the exterior climate and interior specified conditions. However before taking up the heat load calculation, it is necessary to find fresh air requirements for each area in detail, as pressurization is an important consideration.
In modern buildings the design, installation, and control systems of these functions are integrated into one or more HVAC systems. For very small buildings; contractors normally select HVAC systems and equipment. For larger buildings, building services designers and engineers, such as mechanical, architectural, or building services engineers; analyze, design, and specify the HVAC systems. Specialty mechanical contractors fabricate and commission them.
The scope of work is to improve the energy efficiency of the HVAC equipment installed in the buildings owned by the City of uMhlathuze. This will be a refurbishment project as the current installed equipment is inefficient and would need to be replaced. The HVAC equipment will be upgraded with the objective of making the HVAC systems more efficient. Old equipment will be replaced with new and modern equipment. Malfunctioning systems will be repaired whilst inefficient technologies will be replaced.
Water and Sanitation:
Physical inspections are conducted with an objective of establishing whether the facilities were in existence, in good working condition and being used by the communities. The age and state of pumps is checked (old and obsolete technologies consume much more power) Check for leaks on connections and pipes Calculate water use from water bills Calculate water use with a meter.
